My name is Kitty Walsh and I am an independent art researcher. I mainly work in the decorative arts, investigating pieces for London art and antique dealers. I enjoy writing, and as well as this blog, I write reviews for art websites.
I studied history of art at Cambridge before undertaking an MA in the Dutch Golden Age at UCL, for which I received a distinction. My area of specialism was international trade and the Dutch East India Company (VOC), and the impact that Asian and American goods had on European society and the decorative arts in the early modern period. I am fascinated by the exotic, and in particular by early European fashions for Asian objects.
I also love old master sculpture, and spent some time in the sculpture department at Christie’s. I am particularly interested in carved ivory and amber, and other kunstkammer type objects.
